Fulbright Distinguished Teacher Argine Safari told us about her own Pascack Valley High School during a lesson of English. Argine pointed out how living and studying there is similar or differs from Finnish high school studies. She also emphasized that there are huge differences between different schools and states in the US. Her students had made wonderful videos to show to our students to concretize their everyday school life. It was absolutely wonderful to watch the videos and listen to Argine and her experiences! It was also a useful reminder that despite the differences between the countries, cultures and the school systems, the similarities are far greater than the differences. The students in both countries worry about and enjoy similar things. As Argine so well put it: ”Our GPA’s don’t define us!”
